You Only Live Once, This Is How I'm Doing It!

Phoebe wants some pie

Today we had my family over to celebrate Joel’s birthday. He doesn’t actually turn ::cough:: 29 ::cough:: until Wednesday but having my family drive all the way out is generally only possible on the weekend. Joel and I will celebrate his birthday just the two of us later this week but for tonight he enjoyed the crazy attention my family offers.

It wasn’t anything big or fancy but there was plenty of love. And that’s what really matters.

Oh and that pie? Definitely bought it at the store. I wasn’t about to risk losing a hand two days in a row.

Pizza instead of cake

My sister turned 20 the other day so today we had her over for a mini birthday celebration. We hung out together and cooked (!) while the boys took advantage of the indoor basketball court. I actually had such a great time cooking. Normally it’s pretty boring for me which is why I don’t do it as often as I should. Between all the chatting and laughing we didn’t have time to feel bored at all. Guess I need to work on getting a sister wife to move in with us.

The domesticating was followed by a quicker than planned dip in the pool. We would have stayed longer but it was too cold for us girls to jump in so we were getting eaten alive by mosquitoes. I guess that’s what we get for being wussy about the cold, huh? The boy had an absolute blast though.

Anthony didn’t like actually swimming. However, he inched his way along the entire circumference of the pool and thought it was the best thing ever. Silly buddy.

Be still my heart. Seriously, this picture makes me swoon. He’s going to be an amazing daddy someday. For now, he’s the world’s best uncle.

After we tired the boys out and donated at least a pint of blood to the local mosquito population we headed back inside for dessert. A traditional birthday celebration would have cake but my family rarely does anything the normal way. Naomi requested my fruit pizza. Who am I to say no? Especially when it’s to something so delicious.

Beautiful birthday girl and the birthday pizza.

Naomi with her men. I think the boys were kind of cheesed out by this point. They just wanted to nom on the pizza.Who can blame them?

It wasn’t anything fancy but it was full of lots of laugh and love. Being part of a huge family is the best because it never goes too long before there’s another birthday to celebrate. Any excuse to get together and eat yummy food? I’ll take it.

Two Year Old Cuteness

We celebrated my little nephew Jordan’s second birthday yesterday. He is such a sweet little kid and he has literally the best smile in the entire world. I can’t believe the youngest in our family is two already. Somebody needs to have a baby soon… Not that I’m volunteering or anything.

P.S. The fruit pizza you see in the video? It was as delicious as it was pretty. ::pats self on back::

The one where we eat dog food

As I mentioned yesterday, Phoebe’s party was a success. We didn’t do anything too fancy because I get it, she’s a dog, she really doesn’t know the difference one way or the other. Plus, we couldn’t do anything we couldn’t top when we have our first child. I can just imagine the therapy bills if our dog’s first birthday party was cooler than our child’s. For me, it was just an excuse to get family together, dress my dog in something cute and eat cake. Seriously, who’s going to pass up an excuse to eat cake?

Anyway, I made her a little party hat.

She looks pretty darn cute, huh?

We also ordered a dog cake from Happy Dog Barkery. They make super cute cakes for dogs and cats.

She didn’t want to look at the camera because she was very interested in the yummy cake in front of her.

Here’s the video of us singing to her and her enjoying her cake.

The cake was peanut butter flavored. Phoebe thought it was delicious, so did my parents’ Labrador Madison. Joel and I…. not so much. It wasn’t awful but I certainly wouldn’t eat more than a little bite. Guess that’s why it was the dog cake not the people cake.

Jordan didn’t quite understand the concept of there being two separate cakes and when Phoebe got to this point,

Jordan got really upset

Once we cut the people cake and gave him a piece he perked right back up.

It was a lot of fun for a dog’s birthday party. By the end Phoebe was worn out.

Tummy full of cake = happy, sleepy puppy

I can’t believe she’s a year old already. She grown into a really wonderful, sweet dog and I can’t imagine not having her around. Maybe it’s time to give her a puppy sibling…

I’m a flight attendant, not a baker

We’re just leaving my parents’ house. Phoebe’s party went really well. I’m not going to get home and to the computer in time to post the pictures tonight though. I’ll be sure to post them as soon as I can tomorrow along with some little video clips we took. Until then, here’s a preview. This is the cake I made for the people. Obviously I’m not a professional cake decorator but it was pretty tasty so it served it’s purpose. *smile*
