You Only Live Once, This Is How I’m Doing It!

Fuckin Perfect

I know when most people post music videos on their blogs I scan the post and move on. Songs never speak the same way to everyone. I don’t necessarily expect you to do any different.

That being said, this song touches me in a way I can’t really explain. The lyrics are incredible and the actual music video is moving as well. If you’re so inclined, listen to this song. Really listen. Maybe it will speak to you too.

Be warned, this is not the radio edit of the song. But, as my friend Kris says, explicit words are sometimes required.

Duck dog

Phoebe loves the snow but lately it’s been so cold that her little paws have been getting cold. Plus, the salt on the sidewalks are hard on the pads of her paws. She’s delicate.

Anyway, last year we bought her a little outdoor outfit when she decided to go on a potty outside strike. She wouldn’t go outside and would pee the minute she got back into the house. Not. Ok.

She had been doing ok this year until today. It’s just too freaking cold. When she refused to go for me Joel and I were afraid she was going to try and go on a potty strike again. Instead of dealing with messes we brought out the outfit.

She was clearly not impressed with wearing those ridiculous little boots again.

Clearly I am a horrible person because I could not stop giggling about her waddle.

Baby giggles

I’m still feeling pretty lousy. Much better than yesterday. But still? Blah.

Nothing is happier than baby giggles. So instead of whining about how bad I feel I’ll leave you with a smile with this video.

Cutest safety video ever

My favorite thing about flight attendant training was learning the safety demo.

I may or may not be easily amused.

It was just so fun motioning to exits, doing the fasten/unfasten of the seat belt and putting on the oxygen mask just like I’d seen other flight attendants do so many times. Now I was one of them. It was when I really started to feel like a flight attendant.

On that note, there are all kinds of safety videos out there. This one is by far the most adorable one I’ve ever seen. Don’t you just want to take her home and put her on a shelf? ::squee::

New Soul

With the way I’ve been feeling the last couple of days for some reason the song below is very healing to me. It just makes me so happy.

I’m going to continue making mistakes. Some of them will have consequences I could have never foreseen. That’s life I guess. I’m always learning and improving as I go.

Really you should check out the official video on YouTube. It’s a beautiful music video. Unfortunately they’re totally lame and disabled embedding so if you’d like to just listen to the song you can do so below.

New Soul Yael Naim

I’m a new soul
I came to this strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit bout how to give and take.
But since I came here,
Felt the joy and the fear
Finding myself making every possible mistake

I’m a young soul
In this very strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit bout what is true and fake
But why all this hate?
Try to communicate
Finding trust and love is not always easy to make

This is a happy end
‘Cause you don’t understand
Everything you have done
Why’s everything so wrong?
This is a happy end
Come and give me your hand
I’ll take you far away

I’m a new soul
I came to this strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit bout how to give and take.
But since I came here,
Felt the joy and the fear
Finding myself making every possible mistake

I’m a new soul… (la, la, la, la,…)
In this very strange world…
Every possible mistake
Possible mistake
Every possible mistake
Mistakes, mistakes, mistakes…
Take take take take take… take a mistake
Take, take a mistake
Take, take a mistake
(oh oh oh oh…)
[fade out]
(oh oh oh oh…)

This? This is just the most fantastic thing I’ve seen in ages. It gave me goosebumps and made me want to cry and cheer at the same time.

I want to be thought of as pretty, I’m not going to lie. I know I have a lot of image issues (but who wants to hear me complain about stuff like that?). What I want more than anything is to feel comfortable in my own skin and focus on the things about me that really matter. I have those moments occasionally. They’re too few and far between though.

But someday I hope to have a daughter and for her I will work on it so I don’t continue the cycle of striving for pretty.

Indian VIPs Part 2

One of the strangest things about being in India was a sort of instant celebrity status. I’m not sure if it was having such light skin in a place where almost no westerners travel. We spent very little time in touristy areas. That combined with India’s obsession with light skin (It’s actually kind of sad. So many girls asked how they could get skin that looked like mine. They have such smooth, tan, beautiful skin that most Americans lie in tanning beds for ages trying to get. Why can’t we be happy with what we have? That’s a whole different post though.) we were quite the oddity.

This led to much waving and staring. We would sit on the balcony and talk while children across the street would watch us and wave. When we’d wave back they’d giggle and get so excited. I kind of felt like a monkey in a zoo. The entire time we were there they never got tired of waving at us.

Later we got a note from this girl saying how much she’d like to meet us and asking us to fill out a question book with our autographs.

We later went over to the note writer’s house for tea.

They were so happy to meet us. The way the little girl acted when she met me was kind of how I acted when I met Robin Williams. It was so strange to make someone that happy just by meeting them.

Another time a whole group of kids came to ask for our autographs and for us to answer questions like our favorite colors, food, musicians etc.

When we went to speak to a group of youth they all wanted our autographs as well. Here’s a video of me signing their hands with my name.

It was neat that one of the kids grabbed the camera from me so we got this clip of both of us with the youth.

When we were out seeing the sights in and around Hyderabad we had more of a celebrity type of experience. We were constantly being stopped and asked to have our pictures taken with different people.

Even the police wanted pictures with us. Not that we would have felt comfortable saying no.

I mean, look at those guns.

It was actually hard to see things because every few seconds someone would stop us for a picture. I can understand now how celebrities get body guards and deny taking photos with people. It’s kind of exhausting.

But I’m not going to lie, all that attention? I kind of loved it.

Games and songs

If you missed yesterday’s post you should definitely check it out for more pictures and stories about the village we visited. Today Joel finally put together a short video of the actual activities I did with the kids. Like I said, I didn’t really have a plan when we got there because I wasn’t aware we were going to be in charge of doing an actual program. I knew we were going to spend some time with them but no one informed us of exactly how until we were in front of them. Then it was basically:

A – “Hey, I’m going to leave now. You’re in charge

Us – “Uuuuummm….

I ended up just picking random songs and games to teach them. Next time I’ll definitely have several activities planned out for them to do instead of just winging it, if for no other reason than the stress of feeling put on the spot was less than fun.

However, once I got in a groove I had all kinds of fun…

I think the kids did too.

The cutest mascot

I don’t know what this bee is a mascot for. If anyone knows please leave it in the comments. Because it is so ridiculously hilarious and cute. The eyes blinking? Kills me. Dead.

Pillow flight on board

This video is so funny. Can’t decide if I’d actually like for it to happen on my flight or not. Leaning towards not. But it would be something you’d never ever forget.

P.S. From the looks of their chairs it’s a Lufthansa flight. We’re flying on Lufthansa. While I’m not hoping for a pillow fight I am hoping my flight attendants are this awesome.
